Dr. Alexander Gaus
Hello! My name is Alexander Gaus and I bring over 13 years of experience in consulting for public administrations, non-profits and foundations.
I wear two hats: on the one hand, I run the Betweenness Organisationsberatung, successfully conducting network and impact analyses for foundations and non-profits. Second, I have been a project manager at the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) for many years. There, I work in particular on humanitarian issues and have carried out a large number of consulting projects for the United Nations, the European Commission, the German Foreign Office and non-governmental organizations, among others. Some highlights were the establishment and long-term support of a network of African think tanks, the piloting of simplified reporting requirements for humanitarian partners for the German Foreign Office and the comprehensive evaluation of a large Swiss foundation together with colleagues from Germany and Canada.
I earned my doctorate (Dr. rer. pol.) from the University of Potsdam in 2018, being part of a dedicated Research Training Group called “Wicked Problems, Contested Administrations.” Supported by a scholarship from the German Research Foundation (DFG), I conducted research on the governance, organizational culture and forms of bureaucratic politics within an international network of public administrations. Social network analysis was one of the analysis methods I used and the enthusiasm for networks was the starting point for my own organizational consulting.
